3Novices:Hong Kong Observatory considers raising typhoon signal to No 3 as Merbok edges closer

The Hong Kong Observatory said on Monday morning that it would consider raising the typhoon signal from No 1 to No 3 between 10am and noon as Tropical Cyclone Merbok came closer to the city.
The Observatory said that as of 8am, Merbok was estimated to be about 270km south-southeast of Hong Kong. It was forecast to be moving north-northwest at about 20km/h towards the coast of Guangdong.
