3Novices:Hong Kong Observatory issues typhoon signal No 8 as Merbok closes in

The Hong Kong Observatory issued the typhoon signal No 8 at 5.20pm on Monday as Tropical Cyclone Merbok, the city’s first major storm event of the year, draws closer.
At 5pm, Merbok was estimated to be about 90km south-southeast of Hong Kong, and headed towards the coast of Guangdong at a speed of about 20km/h.
The No 1 standby signal was issued on Sunday night, and raised to the No 3 strong wind signal on Monday morning.
