3Novices:Customs seize diamonds valued at HK$5.5 million hidden in car at Shenzhen border

Hong Kong customs officers have enhanced their inspection of cross-border vehicles at local border checkpoints following the seizure of HK$5.5 million worth of diamonds hidden on board a Shenzhen-bound car in an anti-smuggling operation.
Officers arrested the car’s driver, 61, on suspicion of attempting to export unmanifested goods. The Import and Export Ordinance offence carries a maximum penalty of a seven-year jail term and a HK$2 million fine.
